Loyalty cards in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, filled in from the desk

Clients carry a loyalty card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and TanVision adds to it when the desk checks them in or rings up a sale. A voided ticket takes its credit back, gift cards earn nothing, the card's barcode can serve as their keytag, and a wallet problem never holds up a check-in.

How it works

Each salon connects its own PerkPanther wallet account, which issues the loyalty cards clients keep in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. TanVision already records every visit and every ticket, so it does the adding: when the desk starts a session, or rings up a sale with the client on the ticket, their card moves. Nobody stamps a paper card or keys a number into a second app.

The card's design lives in your wallet account. You give TanVision the id of the card template you issue, and it adds to cards on that template and no other.

What a visit and a sale are worth

You set the rules in Settings > Integrations > Loyalty cards:

WhenWhat the card gets
A session at check-inStamps, visits or points, as many per session as you set, or nothing
A sale at the tillNothing, the ticket total for a cashback card, or a set number of points per dollar
A voided ticketExactly what that ticket earned comes back off the card
A gift card saleNothing. The client earns when the gift card is spent

The sale figure is what the client paid, tax included. Points are rounded down to a whole number, so a card never shows a fraction of a point that nobody can match to a receipt. The rule has to match the card template, because stamp, visit and point cards are different kinds of card in the wallet.

The wallet card doubles as a keytag

When a client is linked to a card, TanVision saves the card's number as their keytag if they do not already have one. The pass's barcode then opens their record at the desk like any other keytag.

Two rules protect the tags you have already handed out. An existing plastic keytag is never overwritten, and a code another client already holds is reported rather than moved. Check a card, on the same settings panel, reads a real card and tells you which of its numbers TanVision will use.

Issuing cards to clients who have none is off by default. When the wallet issues a card, it texts or emails the client a link to add it, which is a message from your salon to someone who may not have asked for one. With issuing off, only clients who already carry one of your cards are credited, and no card link goes out.

Before creating anyone, TanVision looks the client up in the wallet by phone number, or by email when no phone is on file, so a client who joined on their own phone is linked to the card they already have instead of getting a second one. Set your dialing code, such as +1, so numbers typed the local way can be matched. For the wider rules on texting clients, see text message rules for tanning salons.

A loyalty card never holds up the desk

The award runs after the session or the sale has been saved. If the wallet is slow or down, the client still tans and the ticket still stands, and a missed stamp can be added by hand in the wallet account. Each session and each ticket is awarded once, even if a button is pressed twice or a request is retried.

At check-in, the desk is told when a card was stamped and when an update failed, with the reason. Clients who are not on the program pass through without a message, so one real failure is not buried under a day of walk-ins without a card. The settings panel lists the last fifteen awards and failed updates, from check-in and the till, with the reason for each failure.

What TanVision does not do with loyalty

  • It never reads the card's balance back. A stamp count cannot refuse a client or change a package balance; TanVision stays the record of visits, packages and money.
  • It does not redeem rewards at the till. There is no loyalty balance to spend against a ticket inside TanVision.
  • It sends no marketing messages of its own for the program.

Setting it up

  1. Open Settings > Integrations > Loyalty cards.
  2. Paste the API key from your wallet account. It is checked against the wallet before it is stored, and only its last four characters are ever shown again.
  3. Paste the id of the card template you issue.
  4. Choose what a session and a sale add, and set your dialing code.
  5. Decide whether to issue cards to clients who have none.
  6. Switch it on, then use Check a card to confirm which number becomes the keytag.

Loyalty cards work alongside client records, check-in, gift certificates and reports, and the sales they reward are rung up on the tanning salon POS. To talk through a loyalty setup for your salon, book a demo.

Common questions

Do clients need to download a salon app?
No salon app is involved. The loyalty card is a pass in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and its barcode can serve as the client's keytag at the desk.
Do gift card purchases earn loyalty points?
No. Buying a gift card earns nothing. The client earns when the gift card is spent on a visit, a package or a product, so the same dollars are never credited twice.
What happens to points when a sale is voided?
TanVision takes back exactly what that ticket earned, read from the award it recorded at the time, even if you have changed your rules since. If the original award never reached the card, nothing is taken back.
Can a problem with the wallet stop a client from tanning?
No. The card is updated after the session is saved, and nothing on the card is read back to decide whether a client may tan.
What do I need to run it?
A PerkPanther wallet account with a loyalty card template and its API key, plus a phone number or email on each client's record so they can be matched to a card.
